The BlackBerry and Wi-Fi
The BlackBerry has always been
known as one of the most essential tools in the corporate
environment, but there is even better news on the horizon. The FCC
has finally approved Wi-Fi usage in these magnificent cellulars. Why
is that wonderfull news? Well, first lets look at the features of a
Blackberry and then see what will happen when adding Wi –Fi
Capabilities to this already essential tool.
The BlackBerry is known for
it´s innovation and overall completeness. Most deliver email, phone
servise have browser capability and have organizer applications in a
compact aesthetic form. The BlackBerry is made especially for mobile
professionals who travel a lot. It is the top of the line wireless
platform and chosen hands down by corporate customers because it
meets the needs of both the en user and those that manage corporate
IT departments.
Features of the BlackBerry
Phone – has GSM Voice services
and options like call waiting, conference calling and call
forwarding. It has a wide variety of blue tooth capabilities so you
can use your handsfree sets.
SMS – The ability to send and
receive short text messages and the specially designed keyboard is
ideal for typing needs
Browser – Can handle all
wireless internet services and access to the internet. Things like
travel, business and entertainment news. You can also access your
email easily.
Organizer- The number one
feature of all blackberries is the organizer that can be connected
to your computer and includes a calendar, address book, memo
section, and task application. These options can be synchronized
without a cradle.
Use in Applications:
The BlackBerry has been made for software
integration. The address book and inbox work with all email, voice
and SMS uses.
Java:
The blackberries have Java 2 Micro Edition intergrated into the
wireless device and provides a programing environment for both
commercial and private industries.
Wi –Fi Options
Essentially Wi-Fi is wireless
networking. Up until now wireless networking has been limited to the
computer world, and a corporation, home business, or home that has
Wi-Fi capability has wireless networking which allows them to surf
the net with one internet connection, yes. But more importantly
allows users to share files from other computer systems.
So by having Wi-Fi capability
on your BlackBerry you will be able to access any information from
corporate headquarters or your corporate office that you need.
Whether you are just around the corner or on that special trip to
Europe.
The BlackBerry that has been approved for the U.S
will be the GSM/Edge 850/1900 and will be physically similar to the
8800 and the 8830 series. The Wi Fi range will be in the 5.4 to 5.8
Ghz range. There will also be a model in the 2.4 Ghz. As usual this
new BlackBerry will have Bluetooth capability, but will also have
microSD capability so you can add extra memory. This new BlackBerry
is scheduled to be released at the end of 2007.
In conclusion the BlackBerry is already a stand
alone tool in the industry, but by adding Wi-Fi capability, it will
eliminate the need to carry any other electronic device on those
long business trips. |
