Mobile Phone Insurance - Theft

As many as 10,000 mobile phones are stolen every month. Two thirds of the victims are aged between 13 and 16. Many phones are also stolen from unattended cars

30% of mobile phone owners say that their phone is insured against loss, theft or damage (20% via a specific mobile phone insurance and 10% via house insurance).

More than 1 in 5 of all mobile phone owners (22%) do not have mobile phone insurance AND stated that recent mobile crime press reports had recently made them become more cautious about when and where they use their mobile phone.

Almost 1 in 2 (49%) contract style phone owners had insurance for their phone, compared to 21% of pre-pay owners. This difference is insurance cover is at odds with the caution expressed about mobile related crime with 34% of both pre-pay and contract customers expressing caution. Hence concern is as great for pre-pay but the prevalence of mobile insurance much less.

So what could this mean to you, apart from the loss of your mobile phone, or PDA.

Halifax recently announced that the theft for Mobile Phone crime last year was up 123%, that is a disturbing amount of Mobiles stolen in the region of 700,000 mobile phones stolen.

Q. If you have your phone stolen what would be the effect on you, if you had NO insurance?

A. You would still have to carry on paying your monthly line rental which could be as high as £60 per month dependent on phone model, even though yours has been stolen.

But there are also extra knock on effects,...... you could end up paying for calls the thief makes on your phone, and these could run into thousands of pounds especially if the thief calls abroad ...... you would not have a phone to call your friends or family, and anyone calling you would not be able to.
